Microsoft has officially responded to the rise of E74 errors that Xbox 360 owners have been receiving today by extended the 3 year warranty to cover the error.
The E74 errors differs from the famous Red Ring of Death in that you receive an multi language error onscreen and the console will have one red light lit up on it. The end result unfortunately is the same.
Microsoft has said that they will now cover the E74 error under the new 3 year warranty. They will also issue refunds for anybody that paid to have their Xbox 360 fixed before the announcement and fell within the warranty. Major Nelson made the announcement today on his website.
I can’t help but be annoyed with yet another possible epidemic with Xbox 360 bricks but IĀ appreciate Microsoft getting out in front of the problem early. Let’s hope this issue isn’t as wide spread as the RROD.
Warranty extended, thats more I like it.

I wonder if they will help me now that I am over by 6 weeks???
I haven’t heard of anybody getting their Xbox 360 fixed for free past the warranty date, but it might be worth a shot contacting them. You still have the option of getting it fixed by Microsoft., they will just charge you a fee. Although you might just be better off buying a new one. You can check out what you need to do for a repair here: http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-360/troubleshoot/warranty/default.aspx. Hope that helps.
