Blizzard's "when it's done" policy is finally getting to that point apparently as they have officially announced Starcraft 2's release date.
Few games carry the same weight when they are announced as Starcraft 2 did. The announcement was so huge it took place in an arena over in Seoul, Korea that held thousands of rabid fans. Since then people have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on the game. A select few of the countless fans got that chance when the private beta was opened up a couple of months back and people have been clamoring to get their hands on the coveted beta keys. The beta was expected to run between 3-5 months which falls right in line with the recent announcement. Blizzard has set a final release date for the highly anticipated sequel and it will be arriving this July. The first of 3 games that will make up the Starcraft 2 trilogy will be hitting store shelves on July 27th. The release will start out with "Wings of Liberty" that focuses on the Terrans. It will then be followed up by "Heart of the Swarm" that will be focused on the Zerg. The final release will be called "Legacy of the Void" and will be based around the Protoss.
Starcraft 2's release date will be on July 27th for the PC and Mac. No release date has been given on the other two releases that will make up the trilogy.
EA Los Angeles has officially announced they are developing Command & Conquer 4 for the PC.
The new game was originally leaked by EA's UK PR team and reported by Joystiq, but it has now been made official by EA. Command & Conquer 4 will take place after the events in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and will take place in the year 2062. EA is stating this game will bring a conclusion to the long-running Tiberium series. It will again feature the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod factions.
Command & Conquer 4 will be released sometime in 2010 for the PC. We can assume a 360 version will follow at some point and possibly a PlayStation 3 port.
Ubisoft has announced a new real-time strategy IP called R.U.S.E. The game is being developed by Eugen Systems, the team that created Act of War: Direct Action. R.U.S.E. is scheduled to be released fiscal year 2009/2010 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.
According to Ubisoft, R.U.S.E. will challenge the players to bluff their competitors and promises to bring a whole new experience into the RTS world. The game will also feature a new engine called IRISZOOM that will allow the player to zoom from a bird's eye view down to the battlefield view in one smooth motion.
Ubisoft has also released a debut trailer for R.U.S.E. It doesn't show any actual gameplay but it does give you a good idea of the direction they hope to deliver with the game. Check out the trailer after the break.Read more...
