VGChartz is reporting that Wii Sports has passed Super Mario Bros to claim the best-selling video game of all time title. Wii Sports is currently at 40.52 million units, surpassing Super Mario Bros. 40.24 million units. This once seemed like an impossible number to pass, but the Wii has done it and it shows no signs of slowing down.

These numbers may be a bit misleading because Wii Sports is packaged in with every Wii console sold and Super Mario Bros came with the NES. Would Wii Sports have sold as many units if it wasn't bundled in, probably not, but that shouldn't take anything away from this huge accomplishment. Bottom line, Wii Sports is a system seller. It is definitely that gateway game that is helping turn people who usually don't play games, into gamers.
