Volition has officially announced Red Faction Armageddon and released a debut trailer along with the announcement.
Red Faction Armageddon with be the follow-up to Red Faction: Guerilla which turned out to be a big hit for THQ. It comes as no big surprise that they would develop another game in the long-running franchise and that it would include a lot of elements that made the last game so great. It will again be a third-person shooter that features completely destructible environments that play a key role in how you solve puzzles and take out enemies. As far as the story, it takes place on Mars again half a century after the events of Red Faction: Guerilla. You play the role of Darius Mason who is the grandson of Alec Mason from the previous game. The biggest change this time around will be that it takes place underground after the Terraformer that supplies air is destroyed. It also seems that the story-line takes a more survival horror angle than previous stories.
The debut trailer appeared in the latest episode of GTTV and it looks awesome. As long as Volition sticks to the same formula as Guerilla, this should be one to pick up when it’s released.
Red Faction Armageddon is going to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PC in March 2011. Check out the debut trailer after the break.
