We are expecting to hear the official name of the NGP, Sony’s upcoming handheld, but it looks like their E3 surprise may have been leaked early.
Sony’s can’t seem to catch a break lately. They have been the target of hackers that have taken down several of their services including the PlayStation Network for several weeks. Sony’s luck seemed to be turning around after they were finally able to get the PSN back up. I’m sure they were hoping to ride this wave into having a huge E3, but one of their big announcements may have been leaked early.
It is still rumor at this point, but several sites are pointing to their trusted sources that state the NGP will officially be called PlayStation VITA or PS VITA, which means LIFE in Latin. In addition to these sources, a development site owned and managed by Sony has popped up with a valid sub domain http://vita.scedev.net/. The evidence really seems to be piling up, but we still haven’t heard anything official from Sony yet. I imagine that will be coming soon enough at Sony’s E3 2011 presentation on June 6th.
In addition to all of the name rumors, RipTen is saying their sources have also confirmed the name of the upcoming Uncharted NGP game. The prequel to Drake’s Fortune is rumored to be called Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Again these are just rumors, but at least we don’t have to wait long to see if they are right.
