New Value Priced PSP Model Announced

New Value Priced PSP Model AnnouncedSony announces a new value-priced PSP model at gamescom 2011 coming out later this year.

Sony is a on a tear at the gamescom 2011 event this year with a bunch of new announcements. We already heard they will be giving the PlayStation 3 a $50 price drop immediately. To follow that up, they announced a new value-priced PSP model.

The new PSP E-1000 will be released for €99.99 later this year, but as of now, will be exclusive to Europe. It will come in the same Charcoal Black color of the PS3 Slim. Sony has decided to drop Wi-Fi from the new model, but says you can get the full catalog of PSP games on UMD or on the PlayStation Store through Media Go.

No news on whether the value PSP will make its way to the U.S. or if it will remain exclusive to Europe. Many people are baffled at the announcement and why Sony would choose to release a new model with the PS Vita coming so soon. I can only imagine how people would have reacted if the PS Vita had kept its original target window of 2011.
