BioWare has officially announced that multiplayer will be included in the upcoming Mass Effect 3 release.
The first details started to leak out after magazines OXM PC Power Play revealed their upcoming issues would include info on the then unannounced mode. BioWare has now officially announced multiplayer for Mass Effect 3 on their official forums.
The first details come from BioWare’s own Community Coordinator Chris Priestly on the official forums. He states that Mass Effect 3 will include all new 4-player co-op missions that will impact the outcome of the single player campaign. They also state that you will be able to reach the best outcome in the single player game all by yourself, but the multiplayer missions will allow you another way to reach that goal. It will not include any kind of versus mode though because BioWare believes that doesn’t make sense for the franchise. Unfortunately you will not be able to play as Commander Shepard or Garrus, Ashley, and Liara in the multiplayer portion. You will however be able to create a custom character based on the Krogans, Asari, and Turians species plus more.
In addition, Chris revealed the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system which will include the co-op missions, but will also include other ways for you to change the “Galactic Readiness” level which will apparently be the key to saving the galaxy. Priestly said that more about the Galaxy at War system will be revealed later.
Mass Effect 3 is going to be released on March 6th 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.
