Kinect for Windows Release Date Confirmed

Kinect for Windows Release Date ConfirmedMicrosoft confirms the release date of Kinect for Windows at their CES 2012 keynote address.

Programmers have been going crazy using the Xbox 360 Kinect sensor with PCs for months since the official SDK was released by Microsoft back in June. Now, developers know when the official Kinect Sensor for Windows will be released, thanks to Steve Ballmer’s CES 2012 keynote address.

No price was revealed during the keynote, but an Amazon listing has the Kinect Sensor for Windows at $249.99 which is $100 more than the current Xbox 360 version. Apparently the Windows model is an improved version of the Xbox 360 model, but could prove to be a detriment to the camera being adopted on the PC. I’m just excited to see what developers do with the new camera outside of the “official” uses that Microsoft releases.

Kinect for Windows is going to be released on February 1st and you must have the official SDK installed on the computer to use the camera.
