I'm a little late to the game but I found a post on lifehacker.com of some amazing remakes of classic video games. The artist's name is Mikael Aguirre and his work is on display at deviantART under the name Orioto.

I'm blown away by this guy's talent. In his gallery, he has remakes of classic moments with Sonic, Mario, and Link to just name a few. My favorite out of the bunch is the Sonic remake. If only we could get a Sonic game that looked this good oh and didn't suck the vast majority of these recent releases. Good Orioto, you make us all jealous of your talent.
