Activision Blizzard disappointed tons of fans when they canceled the Guitar Hero franchise for the foreseeable future.
The announcement came during a financial call and it was explained that due to continued decline in sales, Activision Blizzard would be canceling the Guitar Hero game for 2011 and disbanding the franchise. In addition to the Guitar Hero franchise, the DJ Hero franchise was also canceled. The scheduled DLC packs will still be released through February, but then those will also no longer be released.
On top of the Guitar Hero announcement, Activision Blizzard also let out that the upcoming True Crime: Hong Kong that was going to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PC sometime in 2011 has been canceled. The Tony Hawk franchise is also being put onto the back burner until further notice after the last couple of releases fell short of expectations.
To say the news came as shock is an understatement. The Guitar Hero franchise has been a huge part of the gaming world since 2005. It helped usher in the music genre to the masses and brought in a lot of people into gaming fold that never would have played a game before. We wish everybody good luck that were affected by the cancellations.
