Firaxis Games Developing New XCOM RTS Game

Firaxis Games Developing New XCOM RTS GameFiraxis Games has announced they are developing a new XCOM game and it’s going to be an RTS.

XCOM is one of those beloved games that everybody wants a sequel to, but will tear apart anything that differs from the original or is an exact duplicate. Just ask 2K Marin when they announced a FPS reboot of the series back in April 2010 to fan-boy outrage.  It’s a tight rope that any developer that wants to tackle a classic franchise has to walk, but it looks like legendary Civilization developers, Firaxis Games, is up to the task.

GameInformer’s February issue scored the exclusive announcement that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is currently under development and releasing this Fall. Firaxis’ President, Steve Martin, was quoted as saying about the opportunity “It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM.”

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is going to be a re-envisioning of the original series, but will add new gameplay and storylines to the original. The bottom line though is that Firaxis wants to stay true to the elements that gamers came to love which should make a lot of people happy.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is going to be released this Fall for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.
