Legendary developer David Jaffe gives us some insight into the single player experience of the new Twisted Metal game.
David Jaffe is almost more well known for his comments on gaming and its community than on the actual games he’s worked on. Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that when Jaffe takes to the airwaves, it always causing a commotion and makes people talk. His later target is the new Twisted Metal’s single player length and fans expectations.
The new Twisted Metal is almost here and people are getting pretty excited to jump back in the beloved franchise that disappeared for awhile. Jaffe recently took to Twitter and posted a message to fans that are expecting a campaign as massive as the likes of Skyrim or Batman: Arkham City may want to rent the game. He does however explain that the single player campaign, which will feature co-op play, is the biggest ever for the franchise and includes some really cool bosses and stories/cutscenes/game fiction. I can’t imagine that Sony is happy to hear a developer recommend renting one of their games, but it sounds more like Jaffe is recommending buying their game more than renting it. Read the full post below and decide for yourself.
“.@downtoforitx Twisted Metal does indeed have a 1player and split screen co-op campaign! BUT to keep expectations in check, know this: the bosses are super cool, I think the stories/cutscenes/game fiction is really very cool, and the campaign is more varied than any other TM we’ve ever made BUT if you go in expecting a campaign the likes of BATMAN:ARKHAM CITY, SKYRIM, GEARS OF WAR, KILLZONE 3, etc…you will be sorely dissapointed. The game- I feel- is well worth the asking price BUT that’s for folks who love the MP (local same couch 2-4 player split screen or online MP ((1 player full screen online, 2 player split screen online)) )…If you are buying the new TM ONLY or MOSTLY for campaign, might I suggest a rental? Again, not knocking our campaign- it really is the biggest and most varied one we’ve ever done- but just want to set expectations and be super clear that the heart and soul of the title is all about the MP. I feel I have to do that in this day and age of MEGA MASSIVE super amazing games that have campaigns like Batman, Uncharted 3, and Skyrim. But with all that preamble, this is the best Twisted Metal game- bar none- we’ve ever done and I am insanely proud of the game and the Utah and Sony Santa Monica teams! ”
Twisted Metal is going to be released on February 14th exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
